"Heights of Madness" - a British Isles Adventurer

23rd June 2010

Just been contacted by another British Isles adventurer, Jonny Muir. Jonny's first book "Heights of Madness" published in August 2009 follows his journey through the UK's 92 historic counties, visiting the highest points in each and cycling between them along the way. Starting in Cornwall and finishing in Inverness-shire 92 days later, he cycled 4400 miles and walked another 600 miles, scaling the equivalent of 14 Mount Everest.

As well as climbing some of the British Isles most famous and revered peaks, including Ben Lomond, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike(the image central above is of Striding Edge in the Lake District), Slieve Donard, and Snowdon, it was a trip that took him to a back garden in Kent, across a live military firing zone in Yorkshire and along perilous ridges in the Highlands. Not only is "Heights of Madness" a celebration of mountains, hills and high places, it is proof that there are wondrous adventures to be had on our doorstep.

Jonny is currently travelling between the west coast islands of Scotland, researching and writing a book that is due to be published next year. He has already taken part in a 16-mile fell race in Jura, followed in the footsteps of Boswell and Johnson on Coll and attempted to find his inner peace on Holy Island. He has still to visit a host of Inner and Outer Hebridean islands, including Rum, Eigg and the Western Isles. He is keeping in touch with everyone throughout his journey on his blog "Heights of Madness"
