The aptly named Sycamore Gap is situated on a section of Hadrian's Wall between two crests slightly East of Steel Rigg.
The tree has acquired the nickname "The Robin Hood Tree" because it featured in a scene from the film "Robin Hood Prince of Thieves" eventhough it is 160 miles from Nottingham as the crow flies.
